Axial Compression Behaviors of Columns Fabricated from Bamboo Oriented Strand Boards

Due to the low specific strength of bamboo oriented strand boards compared with commonly used wooden building materials, reasonable and novel cross-section designs columns fabricated from as structural members were investigated. An axial compression experiment was carried out on full-scale characterize ultimate behaviors under a concentric load. The bearing capacities solid, hollow five-core same height not obviously different each other. larger slenderness ratio showed lower loads higher deflections. short experienced failure due material crushing, long combination crushing inelastic buckling. empirical equations for predicting capacity applicability columns. Non-linear finite element modeling analyses validate experimental results, satisfactory agreement found in modes capacity.
